Dean Thompson, 69, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012, at his home in rural Ames. A memorial service in celebration of Dean's life will be held at Adam's Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 30 with visitation from 9-11 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. The service will be followed by a gathering at Deano's on Main Street in Ames.
Dean was born on March 10, 1943 in Roland, IA to Sadie (Hall) and Sherman Thompson. He owned his own drywall business for several years then worked for the City of Ames in the street department for 21 years until his retirement. He lived on the family acreage north of Ames for his entire life. He owned Deano's in downtown Ames, was an avid bird watcher and loved discussing politics. He will be missed by his many friends and family.
He is survived by two sons, Rick Thompson (Chris Hadaway) and Rod Thompson (Lisa Stephany) and one daughter Robin (Gary) Pickard; his very special friend, KP; eight grandchildren—Kyla (Brian) Shannon, Dustin Lynch, Amber Thompson, Ashley Thompson, Sean Thompson, Riley Pickard, Taylor Pickard; one sister, Shirley Thompson Grunsted (David) Fredrickson; one sister-in-law, Chris Thompson Bolton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his life-long friend and brother, Gary Thompson.
