Youth & Shelter Services

School is right around the corner, and with that comes a need for school supplies. Youth & Shelter Services is holding a School Supply Drive for this upcoming school year. The need for school supplies has increased in the past few years with YSS providing school supplies to over 250 central Iowa youth in 2011, up from just 150 in 2009.  YSS depends on the generous donations from the Ames and Story County communities to help contribute to area youth.

School supply lists can be found in most department stores. Items especially needed this year include backpacks, graphing calculators, flash/thumb, notebooks and lined filler paper.  However, all school supplies for all ages are needed to meet the growing needs.

If you would like to make a donation and help our youth begin the school year with the supplies they need to succeed, please bring supplies to the YSS Family Life Center, 125 S. Third St., by August 8.  You may also drop items off at the following community sponsors: Ames Racquet & Fitness; 2622 N. Stange Road, 320 17th St., and 4700 Mortensen Road in Ames; Complete Spine & Headache at 4611 Mortensen Road, Ames; Great Western Bank at 522 Broad St., Story City; Great Western Bank at 316 S. Duff Ave. and 402 Lincoln Way in Ames; ISU Center for Technology in Learning & Teaching at N108 Lagomarcino Hall, Iowa State University; Starbucks Coffee at 327 Lincoln Way, Ames; US Bank at 405 Main St., 2546 Lincoln Way and 2615 Grand Ave. in Ames.
