ASSET Part 2: Senior services facing serious deficit; mental health clients to see changes

(Jan. 10, 2012 – 1:45 p.m.) Ten Story County social service agencies have requested more than 10 percent increases in funding next year, far exceeding the amount of money ASSET funders intend to make available.

 

Four of the agencies discussed their requests with the ASSET evaluation team on Jan. 4. Big Brothers, Big Sisters asked for 67.1 percent more, the Boy Scouts, 38.6 percent more, Story Time Child Care, 14.5 percent more and Emergency Residence Project, 11 percent more.

 

The remaining six spoke during the second day of ASSET hearings, Jan. 5.

Beck switches from interim to executive director at HSS

(Nov. 9, 2011 - 2:15 p.m.) HSS Board of Directors has named Elizabeth Beck as the next executive director of Heartland Senior Services of Story County.  Beck has been serving as Heartland’s Interim Director since July 2010.

One of the nation’s top non-partisan seniors advocacy organizations recognized Iowa Congressman Tom Latham on Tuesday with an award for his commitment to representing senior citizens.

Congressman Latham received the Guardian of Seniors' Rights Award from the 60 Plus Association during a ceremony on Capitol Hill for his continued commitment to programs and issues important to American seniors.  The Association’s Guardian Award is presented to Democrats and Republicans in Congress based on their “senior friendly” voting records. The Honorary Award is given to those running for office and is based on their views on seniors’ issues.
