(March 5, 2010 - 10:30 a.m.) At the headquarters at Goodwill Industries of Central Iowa in Des Moines last week, there were several big boxes containing huge piles of computer monitors, printers, and cell phones in the storage area. One of them was labeled “E-Waste, Urbandale store.”

Dave Parr, the operations director of Goodwill’s E-Waste [electronic waste] Program, pointed it out and said, “This box comes from the Urbandale store. It weighs around 300 pounds. Those bigger ones probably weigh 400 to 500 pounds. The store collects donated computers and related products and then puts them into big boxes. Once the boxes are full, they will be brought back to here. ”

“What’s for the dinner?”

Some may hit on quick solutions, such as frozen foods and microwave meals. However, others may choose to try new recipes and get inspired by foods, like Julia Child and Julie Powell, whose stories were adapted into the film, “Julie & Julia.”

In Ames, there are two cooking classes that help people experience new recipes, gain food knowledge, and learn cooking techniques.
