(March 26, 2012 – 12:15 p.m.) Ames state representative Lisa Heddens said Friday that an amendment is headed to the Iowa House floor that would eliminate state funding of Planned Parenthood, reduce funding to other women’s clinics and could jeopardize Iowa’s Medicaid funding.

Representatives Annette Sweeney (R – Hardin), Tom Shaw (R-Pocahontas), Duane Alons (R-Sioux) and Kim Pearson (R-Polk) introduced amendment H8213 on March 12 after HF 2435, the 2013 Health and Human Services budget, had passed out of committee.

“It could come to the House floor and get voted on anytime,” said Heddens. “The question is going to be, will they continue to pursue the amendment or will they withdraw the amendment?

“If they don’t withdraw it, I am concerned that we will end up losing Medicaid dollars similar to Texas.”
