Capt. Richard Higgins
Ames Fire Department

(Nov. 17, 2011 - 9:30 p.m.) At approximately 11:13 P.M., the Ames Fire Department responded to 1612 Reagan Drive for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found flames and smoke coming from the attic and roof area of the single-family residence.

Reagan Drive is in the Parkview Heights subdivision.

Crews initially made entry into the home, but were unable to remain inside when the roof began collapsing due to extreme fire involvement.  Crews retreated to the outside and began efforts to control the fire with hand lines from the exterior of the structure.

Two occupants were home at the time of the fire and escaped unharmed. There were no reports of injury. Damage is estimated at approximately $250, 000.  According to the Story CountyAssessor's website, the property is owned by Danny and Julieanne Craig.

The fire is currently under investigation and is not considered suspicious.
