Press Release

(Jan. 25, 2012) Yes it is finally here!  Many of our ACTORS members wait with anticipation for the annual dinner theater, and it will open right after the New Year!  Something to look forward to after the Christmas hoopla is a glittery memory!!

ACTORS is proud to present “The Queen of Bingo” written by Jeanne Michels and Phyllis Murphy.

This Off-Broadway comedy hit is about Bingo, family bonds, widowhood, diet crazes, winning and losing, and sibling rivalry.    Featuring 2 sisters, played by Mary Richards (left) as Sis, and Belinda Merritt as Babe, we learn of their individual stories, played out in the midst of the calls of “Bingo” as the game is played in St. Joseph’s hall.  Ben Smith plays Fr. Mac (left), the likable young new assistant pastor, along with Jeff Blevins and his rich mellow voice as the Bingo caller.   You as the audience will become real players in the bingo hall, and experience the tension of waiting for that one last number to be called.

The two sisters are very different individuals bound together by genetics, history and love.  Both a little lonely at this stage in their lives, each has found a different balm.  For Sis it is involvement in outside activities, other people’s lives.  For Babe it is insulation in the form of overeating and, lately, seclusion.  Her buttons are easily pushed, and Sis seems to find every one of them.  If we all have good and bad qualities, then Sis and Babe’s all come out on this one night at the Bingo hall.  The time is right for change for both these women, and tonight just might be their lucky night.

Your Friday or Saturday evening will start with a lovely lasagna dinner with salad and bread catered by Pazzesco’s Pasta and Chop House of Ames, with a vegetarian Eggplant Parmesan as an option.   In true church dinner fashion, the desserts at intermission will be a collection of yummy sweets.   Keeping with the church hall theme, various local youth groups have been invited to serve the dinners, and an “offering” will be collected to help with their various projects and trips.   Sunday matinees are show only.

Director Susan Rappenwolf is thrilled to be back at ACTORS to play with this talented cast.  Set design and construction by ACTORS President Mike Jackson and his best right hand woman, wife Myra.  Production details are being handled by Dennis and Ronnie Lindeman with Marla Miller.  We want you to know that the cast and crew have attended local bingo halls to conduct research for an authentic experience for our audience, complete with good luck tchotchkes.

Come to “Queen of Bingo” January 27 through February 12 and learn of the good luck and good will generated when someone close to you yells BINGO!!!
